The Brethren in Christ Church in the U.S. has agreed to participate in the Global Anabaptist Profile study (GAP). This is the first major study of global Anabaptist-Mennonite churches. The overall purpose of GAP is to gather comparative data from a sample of Mennonite World Conference member churches. Twenty four national churches have agreed to participate in this study. In addition to BIC US, Brethren in Christ churches in Canada, Malawi and Zimbabwe are participating in the study.
All members and participants in Brethren in Christ churches in the U.S. are being invited to complete an on-line survey. The link to access the survey is: www.surveymonkey.com/s/GAPMWC
Invitations to participate in the study are being sent to email addresses available through general church offices. Provision is also being made for those who wish to fill out a paper and pencil version of the survey (rather than use the on-line version). The survey has approximately sixty questions and will take somewhere between twenty and thirty minutes to complete.
The participation of each person in the study is voluntary and responses to questions will remain confidential. The name of the respondent will never be connected with answers to any of the questions. There are no anticipated risks to participants in this study but there are significant benefits to our denomination by participation in the research. By gathering this data we will have a better understanding of our church and its place in a global community of related churches. These results will also help the global church to better understand its member churches and congregations and will encourage future growth and development. Respondents indicate their willingness to participate in this study by completing the survey. The goal is to present the results of this project to the World Mennonite Conference which will convene during the summer of 2015 in Harrisburg, PA.
If anyone has additional questions about this project, please contact Ron Burwell (firstname.lastname@example.org) who is serving as Research Associate for the Brethren in Christ Church in the U.S. participation in GAP. Results of the study will be made available to church members once the study has been completed.
